A Fierce Advocate With a Practical Approach to Handling Difficult Matrimonial and Family Law Matters
Susan has devoted her practice exclusively to matrimonial and family law since returning to New York in 1990. She handles all aspects of matrimonial and family law matters from initial intake to final resolution by settlement or trial. She also handles various post-judgment issues, including modifications, enforcements and appeals. On a daily basis she is addressing complex legal issues arising from family disputes and divorce. Susan’s background in the social sciences enables her to assist her clients in the often emotionally charged divorce and custody situations. Susan’s commitment to educating her clients about the legal process assists her clients as they navigate their matters.
Susan has over 30 years of experience and knows that preparation is key in resolving cases and if litigation is required, then she will be ready to proceed. She is a fierce advocate for her clients, while still maintaining a respectful attitude toward her colleagues.
Susan offers a practical approach to handling difficult matters and ensures that her clients are educated so that they can understand the process and have realistic expectations. Susan regularly appears in Supreme and Family Courts in Rockland, Westchester and Orange Counties representing her clients through all phases of litigation. Susan has also prepared appellate briefs and appeared for conferences and oral arguments in the Appellate Division, Second Department. Susan also co-authored numerous Articles for CLE lectures for the New York State Bar Association and has been a lecturer and moderator thereat.
Susan is also trained in Collaborative Law which offers clients an alternative to litigation and enables her clients to reach a resolution outside of the courtroom. Susan was a founding member of the Rockland-Westchester Association of Collaborative Lawyers and served as treasurer for that group.
Susan is also actively involved in the legal community. She is currently a member of the board of directors of the Rockland County Women’s Bar Association, and is a former President of the Rockland County Women’s Bar Association and a former member of the Judicial Screening Committee. Susan was the Co-Chair for the 2017 Convention Committee for the Women’s Bar Association for the State of New York. Susan was an honoree of the Nyack Center’s Women of Leadership and Vision in March 2017. She is a member of the board of directors for the Legal Aid Society of Rockland County, Inc. She has participated in numerous walk-a-thons to raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society, Rockland County Mental Health and Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, as well as organizing donations for the Children’s Center at the Rockland County Courthouse. She has also participated with members of the Orange-Sullivan, Mid-Hudson and Rockland County Women’s Bar Associations to build a home in Newburgh as part of Habitat for Humanity.
